Service Hours: Elves Wanted: Grinches Need Not Apply: The City of Kearney is seeking responsible teenagers to volunteer as elves in the Christmas Cottage located in Downtown Kearney this holiday season. Santa and the elves will be available on Thursdays from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Saturdays from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and Sundays from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm during December. Santa’s first appearance will be Thursday, November 30th and his last appearance in the cottage will be Thursday, December 21st. The full schedule is below: Thursdays 4:00pm – 8:00pm November30, December 7, 14, 21 Saturdays 12:00pm – 5:00pm December 2, 9, 16 Sundays 1:00pm – 5:00pm December 3, 10, 17 For students looking to complete community service hours, this is a perfect opportunity. Required skills for the position include: • Enthusiastic and outgoing personality • Must enjoy working with children • Knowledge of how to operate a smart phone • Must love Christmas • Must believe in Santa. Elves will be responsible for assisting families with taking photos using any type of electronic device – digital cameras, smart phones or tablets. Elf costumes and free candy canes daily will be provided. All selected volunteers will get an automatic spot on Santa’s Nice List. Free Enhanced Driving Skills for Teens Event.... October 17th from 8:00am - 1:30pm at the Nebraska Safety Center Driving Range in Kearney. This event will feature advanced hands on training and a Ride and Drive experience for distracted and impaired driving. Each participant will receive a $10 iTunes gift card and be entered into a drawing for a $250 scholarship and a $200 VISA gift card. Required: Teen drivers age 16-18 with valid license and parents' permission. Lunch will be provided. Participation is free of charge, but advance registration is required, space is limited!!
